Today is World Food Day!
This year’s theme is: Our Actions Are Our Future
It is unfortunate that in today’s society, we still have people who do not know where their next meal will come from…
Fortunately, we have several people who are willing to help those in need. Today, we acknowledge the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for their contributions to this global issue.
To honor World Food Day, we want to recognize our School Nutrition Staff and vendors that are hard at work on feeding wholesome lunches to our hungry students. We also are busy on expanding our menu even MORE so that students can have the foods they love at home, in their cafeteria as well! Recently, we have been taste testing new recipes in elementary, middle and high schools as potential additions to next year’s menu. In our list of taste testing recipes, we have included a handful of ethnic dishes from around the world that may sound familiar to our students. However, we are presenting them with a more nutritious and delicious twist.
Some of these ethnic dishes include:
- General Tso’s Tofu
- Chicken Souvlaki
- Pumpkin and Orange Cranberry Scones
We are excited to hear students’ feedback on these items, as we love adding variety to our menus! It allows our students to try something new and be exposed to food from a different culture.
